Operation Dynamo was an inspirational journey back to a time when making the most of the technology available was quite literally a matter of life and death.

Seeing where the planning for the Dunkirk evacuations took place was humbling. It was also amazing to see the maze of cables and communication equipment that enabled the staff to plan this vitally significant event. Operation Dynamo resulted in more than 300,000 soldiers being evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk.

The way the work of the ‘team’ has been brought to life through the use of static displays, video projection and animations. The way the story unfolded with audio and video footage from the time, as well as newspapers and other documents allowed the viewer to step back in time and to experience what it would have been like to be in those tunnels in 1940.

I think that this type of display allows visitors the chance to really appreciate this part of history, and the use of technology to bring it to life really enhances the experience is an excellent example of a multimodal display? Anyone with an interest in history would really benefit from visiting this display.
